Cool Rural Towns combine traditional environmental knowledge with trees, water management, green infrastructure, climate technology and community action to create cooler, cleaner and more climate-resilient places. The approach connects shade trees, home and vertical gardens, windbreaks, rainwater retention, clean streams and Community Ellanga systems to reduce heat, dust and runoff. Supported by local government, schools, communities and other stakeholders, it uses GIS, environmental sensors and local observations to guide action, measure change and build healthier, greener and more resilient rural towns.
