Twenty years ago, I started Shilpa Sayura with a simple conviction: every child, regardless of where they are born, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and shape their own future. I never imagined that this small idea would grow into a journey spanning two decades, touching thousands of lives and inspiring a community of educators, innovators, volunteers, and partners.

The journey has never been easy. There were moments of uncertainty, limited resources, and many challenges that seemed impossible to overcome. Yet, every obstacle strengthened my belief that real development is driven not by technology alone, but by people with passion, commitment, and the courage to create change.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with remarkable teachers, talented young people, dedicated volunteers, researchers, government institutions, universities, international organisations, and generous supporters. Together, we have transformed ideas into practical solutions that have improved education, promoted digital inclusion, encouraged innovation, and opened new opportunities for communities across Sri Lanka.

One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that technology is only meaningful when it empowers people. Whether introducing digital learning to rural schools, promoting cyber safety, encouraging girls to pursue STEM, supporting climate innovation, or exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence, our goal has always remained the same—to use knowledge and technology to improve lives.

I have been inspired by the determination of students who refused to let poverty limit their dreams, by teachers who embraced new ways of learning, and by communities that welcomed innovation with hope and enthusiasm. Their stories have continually reminded me why this work matters.

Research and innovation have also become central to our journey. Working with universities and professional communities has allowed us to bridge academic research with practical community needs, ensuring that new knowledge creates real-world impact rather than remaining confined to laboratories or publications.

Looking back, I do not measure success only by the number of projects completed or awards received. I see success in every student who gained confidence, every teacher who inspired others, every young innovator who solved a local problem, and every partnership built on trust and shared purpose. These are the true achievements of Shilpa Sayura.

As we celebrate twenty years, I feel deep gratitude to everyone who has believed in this vision. Volunteers, colleagues, partners, educators, donors, researchers, friends, and family have all played an important role in making this journey possible. Shilpa Sayura has never been the work of one person; it has always been a shared mission.

The challenges facing our world continue to evolve. Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, climate change, digital inequality, and the future of education demand fresh thinking and responsible leadership. I believe the next twenty years offer even greater opportunities to empower communities through innovation, research, and collaboration.

To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you for walking alongside me. Your encouragement, friendship, and dedication have transformed a simple dream into a lasting movement for education and social good.

As I reflect on these twenty years, I remain as hopeful as I was on the day Shilpa Sayura began. There is still much to do, many lives to touch, and many young people waiting for the opportunity to realise their potential.
